Introduction
My name is Clio Hartzer. I have been teaching secondary mathematics for over a decade, specializing in Algebra II and Calculus. Recently, I shifted to serve as a middle school math specialist. I'm especially passionate about addressing student anxieties about mathematics, and about making mathematics accessible to a wide audience.
I am also a writer, and I see a connection between mathematics, language, and computer programming: They all involve communicating abstract ideas in ways that solve problems. I write fiction, essays, and poetry.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in market research in a variety of technical capacities, including database management, computer programming, questionnaire development, and field management.
I have an MAT in Mathematics Education and an MA in Linguistics, as well as BS degrees in Mathematics/Computer Science and in Humanities.
I embrace new technology, and seek ways of including it in the classroom. I have been maintaining my lecture notes in OneNote and share those with my students. I have also created several custom Desmos Activities.
I have also been exploring AI as a tool for enhancing teacher workflow. I have used Claude AI to develop apps to enhance student engagement; these are available at Clio's Classroom.
